The bodies of two children were recovered from a pond in Sherpur's Nalitabari upazila early Monday (August 24), around 12 hours after they went missing.

The victims were identified as Rohan, 8, son of Hazrat Ali, and Ismail, 9, son of Obaidur, both from Madhya Nakshi village in Koloshpar union.

According to police, the boys left their respective homes around noon on Sunday but did not return. Their families and local residents searched the surrounding areas for hours without finding any trace of them.

The search ended around dawn Monday when locals spotted the bodies floating in a large pond in the Madhya Nakshi area. Residents recovered the bodies from the water and informed police.

According to locals, the two boys occasionally went fishing in nearby rivers and ponds and were not strong swimmers. They suspect the children may have drowned while fishing, although the exact circumstances of their deaths have not yet been established.

Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nalitabari Police Station, confirmed that the bodies had been recovered and said necessary legal procedures were underway.
