Two children were killed in separate landslides triggered by days of heavy rainfall in Chattogram on Wednesday, as authorities renewed warnings for residents to evacuate high-risk hillside areas.

The first incident occurred around 9:00am in the Jungle Salimpur area of Sitakunda, where a landslide buried a house, killing 10-month-old Ashraful Islam Tanvir. His mother, Lamia Akter, was trapped under the debris and later rescued with injuries.

Sitakunda Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Fakhrul Islam said the administration had provided Tk 25,000 for Lamia's treatment. He added that despite repeated warnings and public announcements over the past four days, many people continue to live in landslide-prone areas.

In a separate incident, 13-year-old Samia Islam died after another landslide struck the Mayor Goli area of Chashma Hill in Chattogram city later in the day.

Senior Station Officer Md. Kamruzzaman of Bayezid Bostami Fire Station said firefighters recovered Samia's body from beneath the debris following a rescue operation.

With heavy rainfall continuing across the region, authorities have urged residents living near vulnerable hillsides to move to safer locations, warning that the risk of further landslides remains high.
