Two detained in Chankharpul for playing March 7 speech during procession
Shahbagh Thana police have detained two individuals in the capital's Magbazar and Chankharpul areas for playing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's historic March 7 speech.
Asif Ahmed, a former student of Dhaka University, and a soundbox operator were detained near Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 3:30 pm on Saturday, March 7.
Asif was a student of the Physics Department from the 2018-19 academic session. Police have seized the soundbox from him.
Shahbagh Police Station OC Moniruzzaman said the Awami League is banned, therefore any activities related to them are also prohibited.
Earlier around 1:00 pm, four young men and women marched from Magbazar crossroads through FDC gate to Hatirjheel area. They took to the streets carrying pictures of Bangabandhu and played the March 7 speech, holding roadside gatherings. They were identified as actors Mishti Shubhash and Iqbal Hossain.
Mishti Shubhash said, "I grew up listening to Bangabandhu's March 7 speech since childhood. I haven't heard it for the past one and a half years, so we took to the streets with a soundbox."
Local residents and the marchers said they did not face any obstruction.
