Two Dhaka constituencies deemed high-risk: Army
Ahead of the 13th National Parliament election, the army has identified nearly 18 percent of the total polling stations in Dhaka-14, 16, and 18 constituencies as 'risky'. Among these, Dhaka-14 and Dhaka-16 constituencies have been classified as 'high-risk', according to Mirpur Camp Commander Lieutenant Colonel S M Fuad Masrur of the Bangladesh Army.
He disclosed this information at a press conference held at the Mirpur Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium on Saturday afternoon, February 7.
Addressing the security situation in the electoral areas, he said, 'Polling stations have been listed in three categories. These include general, medium, and high-risk polling stations. The army is on maximum alert to ensure voters can come to and leave polling stations without hindrance. Security measures are being taken by categorising polling stations as high-risk, medium, or general according to the level of risk.'
S M Fuad Masrur said, 'Dhaka-14 and 16 constituencies have been marked as high-risk. The army will work as a striking force to keep the electoral environment normal. Stern action will be taken against anyone attempting to create disorder by spreading misinformation or rumours.'
He said, 'Journalists have been urged to conduct primary verification before disseminating any information about disorder or sabotage during the election period, to prevent the circulation of false or provocative news. Furthermore, the security of journalists will also be ensured.'
He added, 'The safety of media personnel, alongside candidates, will be ensured during the election. We request that if any risky situation is perceived anywhere, it be reported immediately to the law enforcement agencies.'
