Two die in Ukhia Rohingya camp in separate incidents on same day

Two people have died in two separate incidents on the same day at the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar. One person died in a road accident, while the other died after consuming poison.

Abdur Rashid, son of Nazim Uddin, a resident of Kutupalong Camp-1 East, was critically injured after being hit by a speeding lorry while crossing the main road around 5:00 pm on Tuesday, May 12. Locals took him to the Kutupalong MSF hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead. The body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy with the help of camp administration.

Earlier in the morning, around 10:00 am, a 15-year-old boy, Karim Ullah, son of Shamsul Alam, took poison in the C-8 block of Kutupalong Camp-2 West. Locals took him to a camp hospital. When his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where he died around 6:00 pm while undergoing treatment.

Police and local sources believe Karim Ullah took poison due to a personal grudge, though further details are being investigated.

Ukhia Police Station OC Mujibur Rahman confirmed both incidents.
