Two die while clearing septic tank

Two people have died while clearing septic tank at a house at Raipur upazila in Lakshmipur.The deceased have been identified as Riyad Hossain, owner of the house, and a sweeper whose name could not be known, said Raipur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Yasin Faruq Majumder.

This incident happened on Sunday (April 14) night in West Rakhalia area of Raipur.

Police and locals said that earlier in the evening, a sweeper went down to clean a septic tank of the house in Rakhalia area. At one point, he got trapped inside the septic tank. Later, when the owner of the house Riyad went to rescue him, he also fell down, getting trapped inside the tank. Later in the night, the fire service was informed and they recovered the two bodies.

Lakshmipur Fire Service Deputy Director Md Abdul Mannan said it is believed that they died due to lack of oxygen inside the tank.

Raipur Police Station OC Yasin Faruq said on information, the police and fire service came and broke the septic tank from outside and recovered the bodies. Necessary legal action will be taken in this case.
