Two dogs beaten to death over alleged duck attack in Patuakhali
A shocking incident of animal cruelty has surfaced in Patuakhali, where two domestic dogs were tied with ropes and beaten to death over allegations of attacking ducks. The incident took place in the Khejurtala area near Badura Bazaar under Auliapur Union of Patuakhali Sadar Upazila on Thursday. A video depicting the brutality has since gone viral on social media.
The footage shows two dogs bound with ropes while a man repeatedly strikes their heads and bodies with a stick. Another individual joins in the assault shortly after. The animals can be seen desperately struggling for their lives before going motionless.
According to eyewitnesses, the dogs belonged to Jahangir Pada, a local tea vendor who had raised and cared for them for nearly four years, ensuring they received regular vaccinations. A few days prior, stray dogs had attacked six ducks belonging to Monju Howlader, son of Abdur Rashid Howlader from the same area. Monju blamed Jahangir's dogs for the loss and demanded 3,000 BDT in compensation. Jahangir refused to pay, stating his dogs were at home during the duck incident. Ignoring Jahangir's explanations, Monju Howlader, 35, along with his cousin Zohir Howlader, 37, forcibly captured and killed the two dogs in front of him.
Attempts to reach the accused, Monju Howlader, for comment were unsuccessful.
Md. Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patuakhali Sadar Police Station, confirmed that he was informed of the matter through the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO). He stated that police are investigating the incident and appropriate legal action will be taken.
