Two DU students lose residential seats over ‘homosexual activity’

The authorities of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall at the University of Dhaka have permanently cancelled the residential seats of two students following allegations that they were involved in ‘homosexual activity’.

Hall Students’ Union General Secretary (GS) Ahmed Al Sabah disclosed the matter in a social media post on Tuesday (11 August) night.

He claimed that administrative action was taken after evidence was found against the two residential students over allegations of serious violations of social discipline.

They were later removed from the hall in the presence of their local guardians.

The hall authorities said further disciplinary action against the students is being processed through the university administration.

Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman, provost of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, said, “The residential seats of the two accused students have been permanently cancelled.”

When contacted about the allegations, one of the students said he was currently mentally distressed over the incident and did not wish to speak further. Attempts to contact the other student for comment were unsuccessful.

Earlier, on July 30, a student of Dhaka University’s Masterda Surya Sen Hall was detained following similar allegations. He was later permanently expelled from the hall.

More recently, similar allegations were also raised against two guests staying in the room of the hall’s Assistant General Secretary (AGS) at Shahidullah Hall.

Following that incident, the AGS’s residential seat was temporarily cancelled.
