Two earthquakes jolt Sylhet at dawn
Two successive earthquakes were felt across Sylhet and parts of northeastern Bangladesh early Sunday (January 5), triggering brief panic among residents.
The first tremor struck at 4:47:39am, followed by a second quake just 30 seconds later at 4:47:52am, according to initial reports.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) initially recorded the magnitudes at 5.4 and 5.2, later revising them to 5.2 and 4.9 respectively. The tremors were also felt across the border in India’s Assam state.
No immediate reports of casualties or damage were available.
