Two factories fined in Bogura for unhygienic semai production
Two factories in Bogura have been fined a total of Tk 3,40,000 by the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority and district administration for producing semai in unhygienic conditions.
The joint operation was conducted in Bogura Sadar from Tuesday afternoon until evening, March 3.
During the operation, 'Alif Laccha Semai' factory located in Nishindara area of the city was fined Tk 300,000, and 'Shah Laccha Semai Factory' in the same area was fined Tk 40,000.
Executive Magistrate Foysal Ahmad of the district administration led the operation. The two establishments were penalised under Section 33 of the Food Safety Act 2013.
Confirming the information, Mehedi Hasan, Assistant Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate in Bogura, said that semai was being produced, stored and packaged in unhygienic conditions at the two factories. Burnt oil and dalda were used in making semai. Additionally, workers were not following health regulations.
He further informed that the establishments were fined for producing food without any certification and while unregistered. Concerned officials said such operations will continue in the future.
