Coast Guard recovered two foreign firearms, magazines and 233 rounds of ammunition during an operation on the Naf river in Teknaf of Cox's Bazar. A wooden boat was seized in the operation conducted from night to morning but no one involved in the arms smuggling could be arrested on Wednesday (August 19).

Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan informed this on Wednesday evening. He said a circle from Myanmar is trying to bring arms into Bangladesh using the Naf river border path and supply them to a terrorist group in the Rohingya camp based on secret information.

Coast Guard Station Teknaf team conducted a special operation in various areas of the Naf river from 1am to 8am based on this information. Suspicious movement of a wooden boat was noticed on the river at one stage. Coast Guard members signaled the boat to stop but it did not stop and quickly went towards the Naityangpara mangrove.

The circle members later abandoned the boat and fled. Coast Guard members searched the boat and found arms and ammunition hidden in a special technique inside the net. A foreign SVD Dragunov rifle, a foreign 9 millimeter pistol and two MA-1 rifle magazines were recovered from there.

The recovered ammunition includes 229 rounds of fresh rifle bullets, two rounds of fresh pistol bullets and one round of blank bullet. The wooden boat used in the smuggling was also seized along with the arms and ammunition.

Coast Guard officer Sabbir Alam Sujan said intelligence surveillance and regular patrol have been further intensified aiming to identify and arrest those involved in the arms smuggling. The process of taking legal action regarding the recovered arms, ammunition and seized boat is ongoing.
