Two friends killed as truck crushes motorcycle in Gazipur
Two friends were killed after a truck ran over their motorcycle in Gazipur's Sreepur upazila in the early hours of Friday (July 3).
The accident took place around 2:00am in the Jainabazar area while the victims were travelling from Keraniganj in Dhaka to a friend's house in Trishal of Mymensingh.
The deceased were identified as Md. Soleman Sikder, 22, son of Hasin Sikder of Sarengkandi village under Jajira upazila in Shariatpur, and Kawsar Hossain, 28, son of Gias Uddin of South Mandail in Keraniganj.
According to police and family members, Soleman and Kawsar, along with two other friends—Sajjad and Arif—set out for Trishal on two motorcycles. When they reached the Jainabazar area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway, a truck coming from the opposite direction rammed into the motorcycle carrying Soleman and Kawsar, crushing them on the spot.
Police recovered the bodies shortly after the accident. The truck driver fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind.
Confirming the incident, Maona Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamruzzaman said both bodies were recovered from the spot, while the truck involved and the damaged motorcycle were seized.
He added that the truck driver managed to escape, and legal proceedings are underway to trace and arrest the accused.
