Two including college lecturer killed in Mymensingh road crash

Two people, including a college lecturer, have been killed in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a lorry in Mymensingh. Three others were injured in the incident.

The accident occurred around 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 31, at Suhila Garden Kawalti area in Dapunia on the Mymensingh-Fulbaria road in Sadar upazila.

The deceased are Sarwar Kayum, a lecturer at Fulbaria Degree College from Morchi village in Bhaluka upazila, and Shipa Akhter, 32, daughter of Abu Bakar Siddique from Putiya village in Fulbaria upazila.

According to police and local sources, a passenger-carrying CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from Fulbaria reached Dapunia when it collided head-on with a lorry coming from the opposite direction. The auto-rickshaw was crushed in the collision. Sarwar Kayum died at the scene, and several others were injured.

The injured were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Shipa Akhter dead. In-charge of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital police camp Md Nazrul Islam said Shipa Akhter was declared dead after being brought to the hospital, and the body was kept in the morgue.

Kotwali Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Khalid Hasan said two people, including a woman, were killed in the auto-rickshaw-lorry collision. The bodies have been recovered, and legal action is underway.
