Two including friend confess to killing woman in Sabujbag
Nusrat Jahan Shahida and her "planted brother" Kabir Hossain have given confessional statements before a court in the case over the murder of Shuraya Akhter, also known as Falani, in the capital's Sabujbag area. After recording the statements on Wednesday, the court ordered them sent to jail. The other four accused in the case have also been sent to jail after the conclusion of their remand period.
Investigation officer Sub-Inspector Noor Alam Siddique of Sabujbag Police Station said the investigation has revealed that Falani was killed due to personal enmity. According to him, Shahida came to know about the close relationship between her husband Rabbi and Falani. On the day of the incident, Shahida saw Falani in an intimate position with Rabbi and attacked her with a knife.
Later, Shahida's associate Shaon decapitated Falani to dispose of the body, police said. Shaon and Rabbi are currently on the run. Operations are underway to arrest them.
On August 6, police recovered a severed head and two hands from under a bridge near a cattle farm at Madartek Bagambari in Sabujbag. After showing the photos, the victim's parents identified them as belonging to 19-year-old Shuraya Akhter Falani.
A case was filed on the same day at Sabujbag Police Station against unidentified persons. During investigation, on August 21, Falani's friend Shahida, Faruk (also known as Jamai Faruk), Sujan, Mamun and Rafi Islam (also known as Bappi) were arrested on charges of involvement in the murder. The court later granted a four-day remand for them.
Meanwhile, after finding Roki's involvement in Falani's murder, he was shown arrested in this case. Police also arrested Kabir from the Khilgaon area on Tuesday. On Wednesday, when the six accused were produced before the court, Shahida and Kabir agreed to give confessional statements. After recording their statements, they were sent to jail.
