Two Indians detained after Bangladeshi taken away; handover at meeting

Following the detention of an elderly Bangladeshi farmer by India's Border Security Force (BSF) near the Meherpur Sadar upazila border, local residents detained two Indian nationals and handed them over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Later, all three individuals were repatriated to their respective countries through a flag meeting held between the border security forces of the two nations.

Abdul Mannan, a Bangladeshi farmer over 70 years old, was detained by the BSF while applying pesticides in a chili field near the border area on Tuesday morning. His grandson, Ibrahim, stated that BSF members grabbed him around 8am near border pillar area 124/4-S as he headed to the chili field adjacent to their home.

As news of Abdul Mannan's detention spread, local residents grew agitated. Subsequently, they detained two Indian citizens from near border pillar area 123/3-S and handed them over to the Ichakhali BGB camp.

The two detained Indian nationals are Sachin Das, 65, son of the late Monmohan Das, and Narotan Biswas, 35, son of Kunj Biswas, both hailing from Lalbazar village under Tehatta police station in Nadia district.

To normalize the situation following the incident, a flag meeting took place between the border guards of the two countries at the zero line of the Ichakhali border. Rajib Kumar, Company Commander of the Nabachandrapur BSF camp, and Nayek Subedar Abu Hanif, BGB Camp Commander of Ichakhali, led their respective teams during the meeting.

According to the decisions reached at the meeting, Bangladeshi farmer Abdul Mannan, who had been detained by the BSF, was handed over to the BGB around 3pm on Tuesday. Simultaneously, the BGB returned the two detained Indian citizens to the BSF.

Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Hasan, Captain of BGB-6 Chuadanga Battalion, stated that a flag meeting was held between the BGB and BSF to resolve the arising situation. The three individuals were handed over to their respective countries in a cordial environment, and the border situation currently remains completely normal.
