Two journalists were brutally assaulted in Chapainawabganj city and are currently undergoing treatment at hospital.

The incident took place around 10:00pm at Battenkha Mor in the town on Thursday night (April 30).

The victims are Channel One correspondent Tarek Rahman and My TV correspondent Tareq Aziz.

According to eyewitnesses, the two journalists were sitting at a tea stall when a group of intoxicated individuals began verbally abusing local people. When journalist Tareq Aziz protested the misconduct, he was suddenly attacked. Tarek Rahman was also beaten when he intervened. The attackers reportedly continued the assault for around 30 minutes.

Injured journalist Tareq Aziz alleged that a local man named Rabbi and his associates, in an intoxicated state, started the altercation after he objected to their abusive behaviour.

Local residents later rescued the injured journalists and rushed them to hospital.

Ekramul Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station, said, “Police visited the scene after receiving the information. The matter is under investigation and legal action will be taken.”
