Two killed, 10 injured as truck hits bus in Sirajganj

Two people, including a bus driver, were killed and at least 10 others injured after a truck struck a passenger bus from behind in Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj early Saturday (August 8).

The accident took place around 1:30am at the Nalga Overbridge area on the Jamuna Bridge West Link Road, according to Amirul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jamuna Bridge West Police Station.

Police said the passenger bus was travelling from Dinajpur to Chattogram when a goods-laden truck coming from the direction of Sirajganj town crashed into it from behind as the bus was passing beneath the Nalga Overbridge.

The impact killed the bus driver and another person at the scene and left at least 10 passengers injured, police said.

Police and Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene after receiving the report and recovered the bodies, which were later sent to the morgue of Sirajganj Medical College Hospital.

With help from local residents, the injured were rescued and taken to several hospitals for treatment.

Police said an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
