Two young men were killed and another seriously injured after a motorcycle stunt ended in tragedy when the bike lost control and slid beneath a sand-laden truck in Mohanpur upazila of Rajshahi.

The accident took place around 9:00pm on the Rajshahi–Naogaon Highway, in front of the main gate of Kesharhat Degree College on Friday night (July 31).

The deceased were identified as Kaiyum Islam Ratul, 18, son of Rafiz Uddin of Sakeya village in Kesharhat, and Limon, 22, son of Shafiqul Islam of Singhmara village. Another rider, Swadhin, 22 — Ratul's elder brother—sustained critical injuries and was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, the three youths were riding a single motorcycle and performing risky stunts on the highway when the rider lost control. The motorcycle skidded into the path of a 10-wheeler sand-laden truck travelling from Naogaon toward Rajshahi.

The rider and one passenger died at the scene after being crushed under the truck, while the third occupant was critically injured.

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohanpur Police Station, said, "Police and Fire Service personnel recovered the bodies shortly after the incident."

"The bodies have been taken to the police station to complete legal formalities before being handed over to their families," he added.

Police have seized the truck involved in the crash. However, the driver fled the scene immediately after the accident and remains at large.

Authorities said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the driver, while an investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
