Two killed after private car hits road divider in Banani
Two passengers lost their lives after a private car lost control and crashed into a road divider near Setu Bhaban in capital's Banani early Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Rintu (40) and Shawkat Hossain Kanon (41).
Banani police station officer-in-charge Rasel Sarwar told the media, “Around 2:30 am on Saturday, a Toyota Corolla was traveling from Banani towards Mohakhali flyover. Near Setu Bhaban, the car lost control, hit the divider, and caught fire.”
“Passersby rescued the injured and took them to the hospital. Rintu died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and Kanon at Kurmitola General Hospital,” he added.
SI Siddiq Hossain of Banani police said, “Another person named Hasnat was in the car at the time of the accident. We are currently checking whether he has been admitted to any hospital. One of the three was driving, but it has not yet been confirmed who it was. The bodies of the two deceased have been taken to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for postmortem.”
Khaleda Yasmin, officer-in-charge at the Fire Service control room, said, “We received the report around 2:30 am. Two units responded and brought the fire under control by 3 am. After extinguishing the fire, no one was found inside the car.”
