Two killed as auto-rickshaw hits stationary truck in Sirajganj
Two people, including the driver, were killed and one other injured after a CNG-run auto-rickshaw crashed into a stationary truck on the Sirajganj-Nalka regional highway in Sirajganj Sadar upazila on Friday, August 28. The accident took place around 5am in the Bahuti Bottola area under Shialkol union.
The deceased were identified as Sri Thakur Halder (70) of Raiganj upazila and auto-rickshaw driver Ashik Hossain (35) of Kamarkhand upazila. The injured, Bishnu Halder, son of Thakur Halder, has been admitted to Sirajganj Medical College Hospital.
Local sources said Thakur Halder and his son Bishnu were travelling towards Sirajganj town in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw with fishing nets in the early morning. On the way, the speeding auto-rickshaw slammed into the back of a stationary truck in the Bahuti Bottola area, crushing the vehicle. The driver, Ashik Hossain, and passenger Thakur Halder died on the spot. Injured Bishnu Halder was rescued and admitted to hospital.
Sirajganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Rakibul Islam Rakib said the families of the deceased had taken the bodies home before police arrived at the scene.
