Two killed as launch hits trawler in Bauphal

Two people have died after a watermelon-laden trawler capsized following a collision with a launch in Bauphal, Patuakhali. The accident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, March 25, in the Lohaalia river at Bamanikathi area.

The deceased are Rezaul Karim, 28, and Nasir Fakir, 42. Both were labourers by profession and were involved in transporting watermelons.

According to local sources, the watermelon-laden trawler had set off from Rangabali towards Dhaka. Meanwhile, a double-decker launch named 'MV Aowlad-7' heading from Dhaka to Patuakhali struck the trawler with force, causing it to capsize instantly.

Two labourers who were asleep inside the trawler at the time of the incident could not escape and died. Other passengers managed to swim to shore.

Naval Police have said an investigation into the cause of the accident will be carried out and necessary legal action taken.
