Four killed as launches collide on Meghna river amid dense fog
A fog-shrouded stretch of the Meghna River turned deadly late Thursday night (December 25) when four passenger launches collided, killing two people and injuring several others.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place around 2:00am near Harina in Chandpur Sadar, as dense fog drastically reduced visibility on the river, causing navigational challenges for vessels.
According to BWTTA Deputy Director (Traffic) Babu Lal Baidya, the two launches—Jakir Samrat-3 and Adventure-9—crashed amid the poor conditions. “Four passengers died at the scene, and several others sustained injuries,” he confirmed.
The exact destinations of the launches at the time of the collision remain unclear, and authorities have yet to identify the victims.
