Two young men were killed after a speeding motorcycle slammed into the rear of a stationary bus on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla.

The accident took place around 8:00am in the Shufua area on Saturday morning (June 6).

Ruhul Amin, in-charge of Mia Bazar Highway Crossing Police Outpost, confirmed this.

However, the identities of the deceased could not be immediately confirmed.

Police said the motorcycle was travelling at high speed when it collided with the parked “Madina Paribahan” bus on the highway, killing both riders on the spot.

“Upon receiving information, police recovered the bodies and sent them to the police station. Efforts are underway to identify the victims,” Ruhul Amin said.

He added that both the motorcycle and the bus have been seized. However, the driver and helper of the bus fled the scene before police arrived.

Legal procedures are underway, while police continue investigations to determine the exact cause of the crash and identify the deceased, he said.
