A motorcyclist and an eight-year-old child were killed after being run over by a truck in Ishwardi, in a tragic incident that occurred while the rider attempted to save the child who had fallen onto the road.

The accident took place around 8:30pm at Kolikandi Bottola area on the Pabna–Kushtia highway on Sunday (June 7).

The deceased child was identified as Alif, 8, son of Zahid Hossain from Koladi village in Pabna Sadar upazila. The identity of the motorcyclist could not be immediately confirmed.

Police said Alif was returning home with his mother in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw after visiting Pakshi. The child reportedly fell onto the road after the vehicle tilted suddenly at the accident spot.

In a desperate attempt to save her son, the mother jumped from the vehicle. At the same moment, a passing motorcyclist tried to rescue the child but both were struck by a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction, killing them on the spot.

Pakshi Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Nannu Khan said police recovered the bodies from the scene. The drivers of both the auto-rickshaw and the truck fled after the incident.

The injured mother was rescued and admitted to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, police added.

Authorities are investigating the incident.
