Two people were killed and another critically injured when a motorcycle collided head-on with a covered van on the Teknaf–Shahparir Dwip road in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday, September 28. The accident occurred around 3:00pm in the Borokhal area.

The deceased were identified as Saiful Islam, 30, of Katabonia in Teknaf’s Sabrang union, and Abdur Rouf, 22, of Samiti Para in Cox’s Bazar. The injured, Hasan, 22, from Moheshkhali, was admitted to hospital in critical condition.

Locals said the three victims were riding from Katabonia towards Shahparir Dwip when their motorcycle collided with a Shahparir Dwip-bound covered van (Premier Cement) near Borokhal Bridge. The motorcycle was badly mangled, killing two riders on the spot and leaving the third severely injured. Locals took him to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex.

“Injured youth Hasan was brought in with serious injuries. After initial treatment, he was referred to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital as his condition was critical,” said Dr Injamamul Haque, emergency department physician at Teknaf Upazila Health Complex.

SI Kamal Hossain of Teknaf Model Police Station said the bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar Hospital for post-mortem examination and the covered van was seized.
