Two killed in nasimon-bus collision in Munshiganj
A Nasimon driver and his helper were killed in a collision with a passenger bus in Srinagar, Munshiganj. The accident occurred around midday on Saturday (July 25) at the Laskarpur Chekpara New Road intersection on the Hasara-Baoraikhali road in the upazila.
The deceased have been identified as Mijanur (36), son of Ayub Ali from Ballavdi area of Salta upazila in Faridpur, and Dulal Mani Das (42), son of the late Sadhan Mani Das from the Shibrampur area.
Eyewitnesses said the Nasimon driver was returning towards Baoraikhali after unloading timber in the Hasara area. When they reached the Laskarpur New Road intersection, a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Baishakhi Paribahan coming from the opposite direction hit the Nasimon with great force. The driver and the helper of the Nasimon were critically injured.
Locals rescued them and took them to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared both dead. After the accident, the bus driver fled the scene with the vehicle.
Dulal Mani Das's brother, Swapan Mani Das, said his brother had gone to the Hasara area with timber for the Shibrampur market. On his way back, he and the Nasimon driver were killed when a bus of Baishakhi Paribahan struck them.
Srinagar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Habibur Rahman said he went to the hospital after receiving the news and prepared the inquest reports. Efforts are underway to identify the bus, and legal procedures are ongoing.
Srinagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Jewel Mia said the bodies of the deceased are in police custody. A case will be filed under the Road Transport Act in connection with the incident.
