Two killed in road crash on Dhaka–Mawa expressway

Two people were killed after a goods-laden pickup truck hit another vehicle on the Dhaka–Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj’s Sirajdikhan upazila early Monday ( February 9).

The accident took place around 2:00am near the Nimtala underpass, police and fire service officials said.

According to initial reports, the Pickup was travelling towards Dhaka from Jashore when it lost control and rammed into an unidentified vehicle from behind, leaving the front of the pickup badly damaged.

The Pickup driver Sujan, 37, died on the spot, while helper Isharul sustained critical injuries and was taken to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Sujan was the son of Mizanur Rahman of Rajarhat area in Baliadanga, Jashore. Isharul hailed from Dumuria upazila of Khulna district and was the son of Jibon Mia.

Emergency physician Dr. Niloy at Srinagar Upazila Health Complex confirmed the deaths.

Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Sub-Assistant Director Muhammad Shafiqul Islam said they received the accident alert at 2:18am. Firefighters from Sirajdikhan station recovered the bodies and handed them over to police. The Pickup bore registration number Dhaka Metro-D-11-6072.

Police said the other vehicle involved fled the scene immediately after the crash and could not be identified. The bodies are being kept at Hasara Highway Police Station, and legal proceedings are underway.
