Two killed in train collision in Chattogram
Two auto-rickshaw passengers have been killed after being hit by a train in Satkania of Chattogram. The accident occurred in East Katgarh rail gate area under Kaliaish union of the upazila on Sunday (September 20).
The deceased are Abu Taher, 50, a resident of Kaliaish union, and Abdus Shukkur, 40, a resident of Ward No 3 of Dharmapur union. Among them Taher was a passenger of the battery-powered auto-rickshaw and Shukkur was the driver. After the accident local people staged a protest on the railway track and two trains got stuck in the middle of the way.
OC of Chattogram Railway Police Station Sujan Kanti De said two people were killed after an auto-rickshaw climbed onto the rail line and was hit by the Parjatan Express train going to Cox’s Bazar from Chittagong. Later local people staged a protest and police made them understand and dispersed them, the OC informed.
Meanwhile Assistant Station Master of Dohazari Station Jafar Alam informed that the Probhal Express going to Chittagong from Cox’s Bazar and the Cox’s Bazar Express going to Dhaka have been delayed due to the protest of the local people.
He said after two people were killed in the collision of the Parjatan Express train the Probhal Express train going to Chattogram from Cox’s Bazar was delayed by two hours 10 minutes and the Cox’s Bazar Express going to Dhaka by one hour 15 minutes due to the protest of the locals.
The Probhal Express train was supposed to cross Dohazari Station at 2:08pm but it crossed at 4:10pm and the Cox’s Bazar Express crossed Dohazari Station at 4:45pm instead of 3:30pm.
