Two killed in Uttara bus crash while returning after watching Argentina-England thriller
Two people were killed after a bus ran over their motorcycle in Dhaka's Uttara while they were returning home after watching the Argentina-England FIFA World Cup semifinal.
The accident took place in the early hours of Thursday (July 16) on the highway near Jasim Uddin Bus Stand in Sector 3 of Uttara.
The deceased were identified as Rabiul Alam Raju and Sakibul Hasan.
According to police and local sources, the two had watched the World Cup semifinal on a giant screen before heading home on a motorcycle. While passing the stretch between Jashim Uddin intersection and Rajlakshmi, a speeding bus struck and ran over the motorcycle, leaving both riders critically injured.
Locals rushed the victims to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Confirming the incident, Uttara West Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Khalid Mansur said police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
"Efforts are underway to identify the bus involved and bring those responsible to justice," he added.
