Two killed, including former UP member, in Sherpur fire

Two people, including a former woman UP member, were burned to death in a fire at their house in Sherpur early today. A house was gutted, and four cows burnt to death in the accident.

The fire broke out on Tuesday morning at Poistirchar area of Kamarerchar union under Sherpur Sadar upazila.

The deceased were identified as Firoza Begum (70) and Sharif (7). Firoza was a former UP member of Kamarerchar Union. She was the wife of Aman Ullah Montu of Poistirchar village. Sharif is the son of Habibur Rahman of the same family.

According to the locals, the fire originated at Aman Ullah's house early today. Meanwhile, two houses including a cattle shed were burnt down. Sherpur Fire Service members recovered the body of teenage Sharif from the spot. Feroza Begum was rescued with severe burns and sent to the hospital. She was later taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where she died. Four cows also died in the fire.

Meanwhile, Sherpur Fire Service Inspector Delwar Hossain said, "The cause of the fire will be investigated."

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sherpur Sadar Police Station Emdadul Haque said, "The family of the deceased has requested to bury the body without post-mortem. Further legal action is being taken in this regard."
