Two killed, seven injured in microbus-truck collision in Bogura

Two people, including a microbus driver, were killed and seven others injured when a microbus collided head-on with a corn-laden truck in Shajahanpur of Bogura.

The accident took place around 4am near Noymail bus stand in Shajahanpur upazila early Thursday (September 24), highway police said.

The deceased were identified as microbus driver Ferdous Mondal, 25, son of Faruk Mondal of Gopinathpur village in Akkelpur, Joypurhat, and Jubaidul Islam, 30, son of Hasher Ali of Barail village in the same upazila.

According to highway police, a passenger who had returned from abroad was travelling from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka to his home in Akkelpur with seven relatives. As the microbus reached the Noymail area, it moved onto the wrong side of the highway and collided head-on with an oncoming speeding truck carrying corn.

The microbus was badly mangled in the crash, killing Ferdous and Jubaidul on the spot.

Police and local residents rescued the seven injured passengers and took them to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura for treatment.

The two vehicles involved have been taken into police custody.
