Two killed, three injured in head-on bus–CNG collision in Netrokona

At least two people were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Purbadhala upazila in Netrokona.

The accident took place around 8:00am in the Ilishpur area near the Fire Service office on the Shyamganj–Birishiri highway on Saturday morning (May 2).

The deceased has been identified as Aynal Haque, 57, son of the late Kasem Ali of South Kaldwar village in Purbadhala. The identity of another deceased male, aged around 50, could not be confirmed immediately.

Police said a passenger bus of “Allah’r Dan” transport, travelling from Durgapur to Mymensingh, collided head-on with a CNG auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction, leaving Aynal Haque dead on the spot.

Fire Service personnel later rescued three injured passengers and rushed them to Purbadhala Upazila Health Complex, where another unidentified victim died while undergoing treatment.

The injured include Molla Mia, 45, of South Kaldwar village; Dr Sara Tabassum Urmi, MBBS, a physician at Purbadhala Upazila Health Complex; and Monir Hossain, 23, of Phulpur upazila in Mymensingh. They are currently receiving treatment.

Purbadhala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Abdullah Al Mamun said police recovered the bodies from the scene and efforts are underway to identify the second deceased.

He added that the bus driver fled the scene after the accident, while the vehicle has been seized. Legal procedures are underway in connection with the incident.
