Two legs of dismembered woman’s body recovered in Adabar, identity still unidentified even by fingerprint

Police have recovered two more legs of a dismembered woman’s body found earlier in a bag and a canal in the No 10 Hakka More area of Adabar in the capital. The identity of the woman has not yet been established. After recovering four pieces of the body on Saturday, police recovered two more legs. A case has been filed against unknown person or persons on charges of murder and disposing of the body.

No one has contacted police until Sunday evening either claiming the body or identifying the deceased. Police said investigation is under way to establish the identity of the victim and find those involved in the killing.

According to police, the body parts were recovered from the No 10 Hakka More area of Adabar around 5pm on Saturday. The head and two hands were found inside a backpack, while the torso and two legs were recovered from a plastic sack lying in the canal.

PBI members visited the spot and collected fingerprints to identify the victim. The body parts were later sent to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy. However, the identity of the deceased could not be confirmed even after fingerprint examination.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Adabar Police Station Md Zahidul Islam said the victim is preliminarily believed to be under 18 years of age. For this reason there is a possibility that her information is not available on the national identity card server.

Police believe the woman may have been killed elsewhere and the body dumped in the canal. Although there is garbage in the canal, there is a water current. As a result the body dumped somewhere else a few days earlier may have floated to the area with the current.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Mohammadpur Zone under Tejgaon Division Jewel Rana said no one has contacted police until Sunday evening either identifying the deceased or claiming the body. A case has been filed at Adabar Police Station naming unknown person or persons as accused.

The first information report of the case stated that the killing may have taken place at any time between 12:30am on September 8 and 6:15pm on September 12. The case was filed after a written complaint was received at the police station around 11pm on September 12. Investigation officer SI Mahesh Chandra Singha is collecting CCTV footage of the scene and surrounding areas in an attempt to unravel the mystery of the incident.
