Two missing as launch collision sinks trawler in Buriganga

A trawler sank in the Buriganga river after being hit by the launch MV Sundarban-12 at Sadarghat in the capital on Sunday morning, July 19, leaving two people missing. The incident occurred around 9:30 am in the Shyambazar ghat area of Sadarghat.

Fire Service Media Cell Inspector Md Anwarul Islam confirmed the incident. He said the trawler, heading for Cumilla, collided with the launch that had arrived from Barishal, causing the trawler to capsize.

The trawler was brand new and had a total of 10 people on board. Eight of them were rescued safely, but two remain missing.

The fire service said the sunken trawler has been located. A diver unit from Sadarghat River Fire Station is conducting rescue operations to find the two missing persons.
