Two more arrested over forcing Rajshahi Medical University VC to resign

Police have arrested two more people over an incident in which a group allegedly forced Rajshahi Medical University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Jawadul Haque to sign his resignation letter.

Rajpara police arrested them from their homes in the Baharampur area of the city late last night (7 October).

Earlier, police arrested Abdus Salam, vice-president of the Rajpara Thana unit of BNP, from his residence in the city's Paramedical area in connection with the incident.

With the latest arrests, three people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The latest arrestees are Ali Akbar Hossain and Delwar Hossain, also known as Dulal, both from the Baharampur area, reports local media.

No political affiliation of the two has been identified so far.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Gaziur Rahman said police arrested them after video footage analysis showed their involvement.

Police are also analysing video footage to identify and arrest others involved, he added.

At around 11:30am on Tuesday (6 October), a group calling itself "Aam Jonota Chhatra Jonota of Rajshahi" arrived in a procession and forcibly entered the VC's office.

The group allegedly forced the VC to sign his resignation letter and assaulted university officials and employees.
