Two more Bangladeshi pilgrims die in Saudi Arabia during hajj, total 41
Two more Bangladeshi pilgrims have died in Saudi Arabia while performing Hajj, bringing the total number of Bangladeshi fatalities this year to 41, according to the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Hajj management portal.
The deceased were identified as Md Abdul Majid and Md Shahjahan Ali. Both died on Sunday (May 31).
Abdul Majid, from Naogaon, died in Madinah, while Shahjahan Ali, a resident of Khilgaon in Dhaka, passed away in Makkah.
According to official data, among the 41 Bangladeshi pilgrims who have died so far this year, 27 were men and 14 were women. Of them, 30 died in Makkah and 11 in Madinah.
The Hajj management portal also showed that 11,613 Bangladeshi pilgrims have already returned home following the completion of Hajj rituals.
This year’s Hajj was held on May 26, with the first outbound Hajj flight departing on April 18 and concluding on May 21. Return flights began on May 30 and will continue until June 30.
A total of around 78,500 Bangladeshi pilgrims performed Hajj this year, including 4,565 under government management and 73,935 under private arrangements.
Saudi authorities estimate that more than 1.5 million Muslims from around the world performed Hajj this year.
