Two more children have died showing measles symptoms in Faridpur District over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths at Faridpur Medical College Hospital to 16, health officials said.
The deaths occurred between Thursday morning (May 28) and Friday morning (May 29), according to confirmation from the district civil surgeon’s office.
The deceased include a nine-month-old boy, Ayan, son of Rezaul Hossain of Matipara in Rajbari Sadar upazila, and a three-month-old infant, Abdullah, son of Mohammad Kamrul Islam of Harukandi in Faridpur Sadar upazila.
Officials said that in the same 24-hour period, 30 children with measles symptoms were admitted to various government hospitals in the district, while 33 others recovered and were discharged.
Civil Surgeon Mahmudul Hasan said emergency treatment and intensive monitoring measures have been strengthened across hospitals to contain the spread of the infection.
He urged parents not to panic but to seek immediate medical care if symptoms appear, stressing the importance of timely vaccination under the national immunisation programme.
“Do not delay even for a moment if measles symptoms are observed. Bring the child to the nearest healthcare facility immediately,” he said.
Pediatric specialist Dr. Abdullah Syed said many admitted children are arriving with high fever, skin rashes, breathing difficulties and severe weakness, often at advanced stages of infection, increasing the risk of complications and death.
