Two more forest workers abducted in Sundarbans

Two more forest workers have been abducted from the western Sundarbans in Satkhira. The incident took place on Sunday morning, May 3, in the Maitbhanga canal area of the Mahmuda River within the Sundarbans .

The abducted individuals have been identified as Ismail Sheikh, 28, son of Mizanur Sheikh, and Abdul Karim, 48, son of the late Abdur Rahman from Harinagar village in Shyamnagar upazila .

According to fellow forest workers, Ismail and Karim had entered the forest after obtaining valid passes from the Kadamtala station on April 26 and 28. Ismail had gone to catch fish while Karim went to collect honey . On Sunday morning, members of the 'Alim alias Alif Bahini' gang arrived in two boats, surrounded three boats, and took the two workers hostage .

The abductors have not yet demanded any ransom. The incident has created a sense of panic among forest workers in the area.

Satkhira Range Assistant Conservator of Forest Mashiur Rahman said no formal complaint has been received yet regarding the abduction. Action will be taken after looking into the matter .

Shyamnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khaledur Rahman said that family members often do not inform the administration immediately, considering the safety of the hostages. Legal action will be taken upon receiving a complaint .

Last month, on April 18, six forest workers were abducted from the Sundarbans under the Satkhira range. Among them, three were rescued on April 22, while three others remained missing.
