Two more infants die with Measles symptoms in Kushtia

Two more infants have died with measles-like symptoms in Kushtia within an 18-hour span, raising the total number of such deaths in the district to four, health officials said on Friday (April 3).

The latest fatalities was reported at Kushtia General Hospital and Kushtia Medical College Hospital.

One of the victims, an eight-month-old boy from Daulatpur Upazila, died around 9:30pm after being admitted with symptoms of measles and pneumonia earlier in the day.

The second victim, a five-month-20-day-old girl from Kushtia town, died around 12:30am after undergoing treatment for four days at Kushtia Medical College Hospital.

Hospital officials said she was admitted on March 30 with similar symptoms.

Earlier the same day, another eight-month-old infant also died, bringing the total number of child deaths linked to measles-like symptoms in the district to four.

Health authorities reported that 20 new patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours. So far, 320 cases have been identified in the district, with around 230 patients currently undergoing treatment. Among them, five to six children are in critical condition.

Officials said most of the affected children were suffering from complications including pneumonia, raising concerns over the growing outbreak in the region.
