Two more Jamaat, NCP leaders to accompany chief adviser on UN trip
Two more leaders from Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP) will accompany Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus during his visit to the United Nations General Assembly. They are Dr Nakibur Rahman Tarek, son of former Jamaat Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami, and Dr Tasnim Jara, Senior Joint Member Secretary of the NCP.
Dr Yunus will depart Dhaka for the United States on Sunday night, September 21. He will be accompanied by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Acting Chairman’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir, Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, and NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain.
Last year, Dr Yunus attended the UN session with an eight-member delegation. This time, he is travelling with political leaders.
According to sources, as BNP is represented by two leaders, other parties were requested to nominate two delegates each. However, due to complexities in the US visa process, only those who had obtained visas earlier were included in the team.
Jamaat sources confirmed that Dr Nakibur Rahman is already in the United States and will join the delegation from there. The NCP stated that Dr Tasnim Jara will also travel to the US on Sunday night.
In the past, national delegations to the UN usually included ministers and ruling party leaders. For the first time, leaders from opposition political parties are joining such a delegation.
