Two motorcycle riders died after being crushed under the wheels of a Cox's Bazar-bound train in Ramu.

The incident took place around 3.00pm on Thursday at the North Kahatia Para area of Rashidnagar in Ramu Upazila.

Biplab Chandra Das, Assistant-sub-inspector at Ramu Police Station, confirmed.

The deceased were identified as Waheed and Mohammad Hossain.

According to the eyewitnesses, two motorcycle riders, returning home on a motorcycle after shopping for essentials at Eidgaon market, were hit by a Cox's Bazar-bound train and died on the spot after swerving onto the railway track in Machuakhali.

Residents have complained about the lack of a rail gate or watchman at the Machuakhali railway crossing, leaving the local population constantly at risk.

A local UP member said, "These accidents could have been prevented if safety measures had been in place at the railway crossing."

Joshim, a eyewitness, said, "No warning signal or bell sounded when the train passed, causing them to cross the railway line unaware."
