Two new wards being formed in DNCC

The government has taken an initiative to form two new wards by dividing two existing wards of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). If ward numbers 2 and 6 are divided to form the two new wards, the total number of wards in DNCC will rise to 56.

The Local Government Division has appointed the chief executive officer of DNCC as the boundary determination officer to determine the boundaries of the two new wards and submit a report with recommendations. For this, he has been given 30 working days.

A gazette in this regard was issued from the City Corporation-1 branch of the Local Government Division on September 20. It was informed that a proposal has been received to form two separate new wards by dividing ward numbers 2 and 6 of DNCC.

The gazette said that the boundaries of the two new wards will have to be determined in accordance with sections 27 and 29 of the ‘Local Government (City Corporation) Act, 2009’. A report with recommendations regarding the determined boundaries will have to be submitted to the Local Government Division.

The chief property officer of DNCC has been appointed as the assistant boundary determination officer for the work of boundary determination. Alongside, a representative of the district administrator of Dhaka and the regional executive officer of Zone-2 of DNCC have also been given the same responsibility.

If the proposed two new wards are formed, two more will be added to the current 54 wards of DNCC. As a result, the number of administrative wards in the North City Corporation area of the capital will stand at 56.
