Two police officers injured in machete attack in Lalmonirhat

Two police officers were injured in an attack while trying to arrest a wanted criminal in Hatibandha, Lalmonirhat. One of the officers, in critical condition, has been transferred to Rangpur for advanced treatment.

The incident took place on Friday night, June 26, in the Gendukuri area of Tongbhanga union under the upazila.

The injured officers are Hatibandha Police Station Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin and Assistant Sub-Inspector Abdul Latif.

Police said the accused, Rashedul Islam, alias Rashed Churi, is a wanted criminal with arrest warrants in multiple cases, including assault. He is a resident of Gendukuri village.

According to police and local sources, Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin and Assistant Sub-Inspector Abdul Latif conducted a raid at Rashed's house on Friday night based on secret information. To avoid arrest, Rashed launched a sudden attack with a sharp machete.

Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin suffered serious injuries to his wrist and other parts of his body. Assistant Sub-Inspector Abdul Latif was also injured while trying to protect him. The accused fled the scene after the attack.

Additional police arrived at the scene and rescued the injured officers, admitting them to Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex. As Ruhul Amin's condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. On Saturday morning, he was moved to a private hospital in Rangpur for emergency surgery.

Lalmonirhat Superintendent of Police Asaduzzaman said two police officers were injured in an attack while trying to arrest a wanted criminal. Arrangements have been made for the advanced treatment of critically injured Ruhul Amin, and they are being monitored continuously.

He also said police operations are ongoing to arrest the accused who fled after the attack. He will be brought under the law and necessary legal action will be taken.
