Two ships carrying 68,450 tons of diesel arrived at Ctg port
Chattogram Port has received a fresh influx of fuel cargo as two vessels carrying diesel arrived between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, easing supply pressure ahead of peak demand.
According to shipping sources, two vessels delivered a combined 68,450 tonnes of diesel, while another vessel carrying jet fuel is scheduled to arrive later today.
The first shipment, carrying 33,400 tonnes of diesel, arrived at the outer anchorage on Thursday afternoon from Taiwan aboard the Pakistan-flagged vessel MT Quetta. Early Friday morning, a second vessel—the Panama-flagged MV Prime Angel—arrived from Dubai with 35,050 tonnes of diesel.
A third vessel, Shing Tong 799, is expected to berth later today, bringing 34,600 tonnes of jet fuel from South Korea.
Industry officials said the latest diesel shipment alone can cover more than five days of national demand, estimated at around 12,500 tonnes per day. The incoming jet fuel cargo is expected to meet roughly two weeks of demand based on daily consumption of about 2,500 tonnes.
Shipping agent Pride Shipping Lines Managing Partner Nazrul Islam said lightering operations have already begun from the first diesel vessel, while preparations are underway to discharge the second diesel cargo.
He noted that four more fuel vessels are currently waiting at outer anchorage. However, due to the size of the vessels and limited berthing capacity at the port’s jetties, direct docking is not possible, requiring lightering operations at Kutubdia anchorage.
Officials added that efforts are ongoing to expedite fuel discharge to maintain steady supply.
Earlier, since the outbreak of tensions in the Middle East, a total of 26 fuel vessels carrying 823,170 tonnes of petroleum products have arrived at Chattogram Port over the past 53 days, according to port data.
