Two ships carrying rice from India arrive at Mongla Port

The second consignment of rice imported from India after the interim government took office has arrived at Mongla Port. Two ships carrying 16,400 tons of rice imported through an open international tender anchored at Mongla Port on Saturday evening (February 1).

Siddiqur Rahman Jalal, manager of Mango Shipping Lines, the shipping agent of the two ships, said that the Panama-flagged 'BMC Alpha' carrying 7,700 tons of rice from Dhamra Port in India anchored at Mooring Buoy No. 7 of the port on Saturday evening. At the same time, the Thai-flagged 'MV Sea Forest' carrying 8,700 tons of rice anchored at Fairway Buoy. He said that the unloading of this rice will start from next Monday.

According to sources from the Mongla Food Control Office, a total of 300,000 tons of rice will be brought to the country from India as per the agreement. Of this, 40 percent of the rice will be unloaded at Mongla Port, while the remaining 60 percent will be unloaded at Chittagong Port.

Mongla Assistant Food Controller Abdus Sobahan said, "This is the second consignment of rice imported to Mongla Port through an open international tender from India. There are a total of 16,400 tons of rice in the two foreign ships that arrived at the port. The samples of this imported rice will be collected today, Sunday (February 2) and the unloading process will begin tomorrow, Monday (February 3) after physical examination."

Food Controller Abdus Sobahan also said that earlier, 5,700 tons of rice arrived at Mongla Port in the first consignment on January 20. At that time, the rice arrived on the Vietnamese-flagged ship 'MV Puthan-36'.
