Two sisters among three killed in road accident on way back from court

Three people, including two sisters, were killed in a head-on collision between a covered van and a CNG-run autorickshaw in Ramu, Cox's Bazar. The accident occurred around 2:45pm on Monday on the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf highway in the Madhyam Khuniapalong area of Ramu upazila. Two others were injured in the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Shahnaz Begum (40) and her sister Rubina Begum (42) from the Harinmara area of Rajapalong Union in Ukhiya. The identity of the third deceased could not be immediately confirmed. The injured are Nur Ahmad (45) and autorickshaw driver Abdul Malek (26).

Shahnaz's husband, Mujibur Rahman, said the two sisters had gone to the Cox's Bazar court for a case hearing. They were returning home when the accident occurred. He said his wife left behind two children, calling it an irreparable loss for the family.

Ramu Highway Crossing Police Station Inspector Sukanta Chakraborty said two people died on the spot when a covered van heading towards Cox's Bazar collided with an autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction. The injured were taken to Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared another person dead. The driver and helper of the covered van fled after the accident, but both vehicles have been seized. Legal action is being taken in connection with the incident.
