Police have arrested two suspected snatchers in connection with the death of a schoolteacher who fell from a rickshaw after being pulled by motorcycle-borne snatchers in front of National Parliament complex last month.

The suspects were arrested during a raid in Dhaka, Shafiqul Islam, additional commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB), said on Wednesday (September 16).

Police also recovered the motorcycle allegedly used in the snatching, the victim’s belongings and yaba tablets from their possession, he said.

The DB is scheduled to disclose further details at a press conference at the DMP Media Centre on Wednesday afternoon.

The victim, Ranjina Parvin, 55, was the headteacher of a government primary school in Bogura. She had arrived in Dhaka on August 29 and was travelling by rickshaw to a hospital in Farmgate when the incident occurred around 6:30am near the South Plaza of the Parliament complex.

According to the case details, motorcycle-borne snatchers grabbed her bag and pulled it, causing her to fall from the rickshaw and sustain a severe head injury. She was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Her family filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on August 30 over the incident.
