Two students branded with hot iron, 3 madrasa teachers arrested

Allegation has been raised of beating two madrasa students and then branding them with a hot iron in Pashchim Jhajhar area of Gacha police station of Gazipur city. After the fathers of the two students filed separate cases at Gacha police station, police have arrested three teachers of the madrasa.

Officer-in-Charge of Gacha police station Golam Rabbani confirmed the matter of arrest on Saturday (September 12) evening. The arrested persons are Director of Madrasatu Darut Taqwa Shoaib Ahmed, 26, and teachers Md Habibur Rahman, 26, and Md Shahin, 19.

The ages of the two students who were victims of torture are 13 years. One of them is a resident of Nikli of Kishoreganj and the other of Jhenaigati area of Sherpur. Their families live in Jhajhar area of Gazipur by virtue of work and job.

According to the FIR of the case it is known that both the students study at Madrasatu Darut Taqwa. When one of them went home around 10pm on September 10, his father saw that he could not walk and sit properly. When asked the reason the student informed that a boil had formed on the waist.

The next day when the father went to apply medicine on the place of the boil the son objected. Later while forcibly applying medicine he saw the mark of burn injury from fire on the waist. When asked about this matter the student informed that on the afternoon of September 9 the pyjama of one student accidentally came off while playing on the field of the madrasa. Over this incident Director of the madrasa Shoaib Ahmed beat him with a bamboo stick. At one stage he was branded on the waist with a hot iron rod, it has been mentioned in the FIR.

In the FIR of the other case it has been said that over the same incident teacher Shoaib confined another student in a room. Scotch tape was put on his mouth, hands and legs were tied with rope, clothes were removed and he was beaten with a bamboo stick. Later he was injured by branding on the lower abdomen with a hot iron rod, it has been alleged.

Officer-in-Charge of Gacha police station Golam Rabbani said teacher Shoaib was arrested on Friday in the case filed by the father of one student. He has been sent to jail through the court on Saturday. Habibur Rahman and Shahin have been arrested on Saturday in the case filed by the father of the other student. They will be sent to court on Sunday.
