Two students demand justice against GS Ammar for assault with Chhatra League tag
Two victim students have raised allegations of assault, harassment and framing in cases by tagging the banned Chhatra League against RUCSU general secretary GS Salahuddin Ammar and Shibir leaders at Rajshahi University. They alleged that false allegations of involvement with Chhatra League were raised against them in various incidents leading to attacks and cases.
Victim students Md Anas Ahmed and Abul Hasan raised these allegations at a press conference organised in front of the university’s central library around 12pm on Wednesday (August 19). They demanded proper investigation into the incidents and action against those responsible.
Abul Hasan said at the press conference that he had to go to jail in a case filed under the anti-terrorism law in which allegations of involvement with Chhatra League were brought against him. He claimed he was never involved with Chhatra League politics.
He questioned if it is proved that he was involved with Chhatra League then when did he do Chhatra League politics. He came to Rajshahi after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024 only for the purpose of studies. He demanded answers as to why the Chhatra League tag was given to him and why he was attacked. He said he wants answers from the administration about the real reason behind the oppression he faced as a victim of Salahuddin Ammar’s conspiracy.
The other victim Anas Ahmed said the allegation of involvement with Chhatra League is completely baseless. He claimed that although Chhatra League had dominance in campus student life he was never involved with the organisation’s politics. He said there was opportunity to get various facilities if involved with the ruling party’s politics but he was not involved with Chhatra League politics under any circumstances. Anas said he stayed regularly at the university and continued studies after August 5 2024. He questioned how he stayed regularly on campus after August 5 if he was involved with Chhatra League.
Anas alleged that after an incident following July 16 he was harassed in a planned manner and when he went to the proctor’s office to know about the matter Salahuddin Ammar attacked him tagging various types of Chhatra League labels. He said why did he have to stay in jail for 22 days on false allegations and who will compensate for this damage. He demanded justice from the administration through proper investigation of these incidents.
Multiple attempts to contact GS Salahuddin Ammar on mobile phone regarding these allegations yielded no response.
Earlier GS Salahuddin Ammar filed a case against five students over the attack on Raksu building on August 10. The accused in that case are history department student of 2017-18 session Md Anas, Sanskrit department students of 2021-22 session Md Mahmud Hasan Mahin and Mamun Mia, tourism and hospitality management department student of 2021-22 session Mahfuzul Islam Noyon and Islamic studies department student of 2023-24 session Azharul Islam.
