Two students die by suicide in Bagmara, Shibganj following SSC failure

Two female school students died by suicide in Bagmara of Rajshahi and Shibganj of Chapainawabganj after failing their SSC examinations. Police and family members confirmed that the separate incidents occurred following the publication of the results, with one student hanging herself and the other consuming poison on Monday.

The deceased student in Bagmara, Rajshahi, was identified as 16-year-old Karina Paul, daughter of Kanchan Kumar Paul from Mohabbatpur village in the upazila. She sat for the SSC examination this year in the science stream from Chanderara High School.

Citing Karina's family members, Bagmara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Touhidul Islam stated that she was a good student who typically ranked second or third in school examinations. However, in this year's SSC results, she failed in Physics and Chemistry.

Police reported that after checking her results on her mobile phone, Karina went into her room. Receiving no response for a long time, family members entered the room and found her hanging. She died on the way to the hospital.

As her family raised no allegations, permission was granted for the burial without an autopsy, and an unnatural death case was filed at Bagmara Police Station, according to the Officer-in-Charge.

Meanwhile, in Shibganj of Chapainawabganj, 16-year-old Tarika Khatun alias Halema died after consuming poison. She was the daughter of Tariqul Islam from Puratan Unisbighi village in Shahbazpur Union and a science stream student at Chakpara Adarsha Lower Secondary School.

Family members stated that after the SSC results were published, Tarika learned that she had failed in English. Following the Zuhur Athan, they found her in a condition suggesting she had consumed poison.

Tarika was initially taken to Shibganj Upazila Health Complex in critical condition. Upon being advised to transfer her to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, her family took her to Chapainawabganj 250-bed District Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Dr. Shahrina Islam from the emergency department of the district hospital confirmed that the student was brought in after consuming poison and was declared dead following necessary examinations.

Shibganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Motiur Rahman stated that they received information regarding a student's death by poisoning following SSC failure, and police officers were being dispatched to the spot to investigate the incident.
